Czech Pirc Defense Trouble

Players usually overthink their opening in a sense that they switch way to much and expect results from it directly.

My advice to you is to spend some serious time in picking a "lifetime repertoire" that is both practical in terms of transpositions, somewhat objectively decent, and fun to play with room for flexibility so that you wont get bored.

In under 1000 rated chess however, you dont need to memorize specific lines. However, watch a few titled level games and try to memorize the common ideas that tend to show up in the opening. This way you can at least have a plan going into the middlegame and this will almost certainly give you an edge against your opponents.

Back in my over-the-board tournament days... in the Late Bronze Age, if I recall correctly... I used to play a system that transposed into a very Czech Pirc like position.

Here's an over-the-board game at classical time controls from round 5 of the Saint John (Canada) Summer Open in 1981.

... so maybe you should just consider changing your move-order, and transpose into your favorite lines.

Queen's Gambit is mid skill and mid-rated, the pro is that if black does dxc4 you can do e3 or e4 or Nc3. And then a4 and b4 making a queenside attack because of the doubled c-pawns, wich your pieces mostly being active until the 4th rank. And the con is that black can do the slav defense or something else as c6, e6, g6, Nc6, b6 or Nf6. Of all these moves it is Queen's Gambit Declined and all pieces black wants mostly to play to is by the 6th rank. Wich is a safe choice to reach a safe and comfortable position for black and easily defend, surely you put the dark-squared bishop to g7, and for white it is hard to attack because most of black defend untill the 6th rank. That why i think it is mid skill and mid-rated.

And for white it is not enough to make your pieces active until the 4th rank, maybe white can activate his pieces until the 5th rank and even can succeed to make a attack, but black can safely defend and even counterstrike. And the black can also activate some pieces until the 4th rank, if there are pawns on h7, g6, f7, e6 and d5, the bishops on g7 and e6, the knights on f6 and 1 in the center, the Rooks on f8 and c8, e8 or d8 a

The king on g8 or h8 or f8(h8 is safest) and the queen only activate until the 5th rank. And the knight in the center you want to play has to need the outposts of 2 pawns of support.

I have a new book out on the Czech - Pirc. The Club Player's Guide to the Czech - Pirc, available on Amazon. https://kdp.amazon.com/amazon-dp-action/us/dualbookshelf.marketplacelink/B0G7F2H762

This is a book that has at its hear a database of more than 6,000 games, all played at Club-Level.

The lines and plans are battle tested in real games against real players, and afford Black every chance of competing on an even playing field.
