With accurate play, I think white ends up a bit better but try Albin's Countergambit against 1. d4, most white players at our level don't prepare heavily against it.

I used to play the Caro-Kann, I think the Advance Variation is sharp enough for both sides and with the main line, try 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nf6!? which I see in blitz and faster games on this site. But again, accurate play for white I think is supposed to lead to an edge for white, with the same caveat that players our level aren't going to study the white side of 4...Nf6.

just learn the first couple moves in an opening, and the themes of it.

I know an OTB player that has every single variation of responses against 1. d4 memorized since he is a d4 player. His opening theory knowledge is probably over 2200, however he is only 1800 because he doesnt study pawn structures and isnt the best at making plans

You can check out my blog about the Caro Kann Advanced. I mentioned the main ideas and structures. And no it really isnt a sharp opening.
