Difference Between the Maroczy Bind in the Accelerated Dragon and the Taimanov

Why is the Maroczy Bind in the Accelerated Dragon much more critical than in the Taimanov? Is there a difference?

If by the Taimanov Maroczy bind you mean the position after 1.e4 c5 2Nf3 e6 3d4 pxp 4Nxp Nc6 5Nb5 d6 6c4 Nf6 7Nc3 a6 8Na3 then the misplaced na3 is a big help to black's cause. It is quite difficult for white to prevent an equalising d5 at somepoint. There are quite a lot of difference in specifics too. In Taimanov d6,e6, and b6,a6, bb7 "hedgehog" position. Compared to d6, g6, bg7 with weak d5 square of accelerared dragon. In the past 5Nb5 has been a main line too, played by Karpov and Fischer at top level. The question is too general really but a similar general answer is in the accelerated dragon white's space advantage is more long lasting.

I can tell you from having seen many games in both lines (I play the Taimanov[Tam in the rest of the message] and my friend plays the Accelerated Dragon[AG in the rest of this message]) that a major difference is the advancement of the g verses e pawns. In the Tam, the d5 square is not available to White. It is very difficult for White to create a weakness in the Black camp. In the AG, with the g pawn pushed, e6 is not desirable as it weakens the dark squares, and the c pawn is gone, so contesting d5 is far more difficult. White can plop a knight on d5 at his leisure, and Black can rarely afford to leave it there. Upon trade off, White will usually take with the e pawn, exposing a weakness for Black, namely the e7 pawn on a semi - open file. If Black advances this pawn, White can take and the d pawn is extremely weak. The not wanting to advance the e pawn is similar to the c6 pawn weakness in the exchange QGD and the idea of the minority attack to weaken that pawn that the rest of Black's position depends on from a stability perspective, only in this case it is a piece trade rather than a minority attack that exposes the weakness. This weakness can't be achieved in the Taimanov Maroczy Bind.
