Does anyone succeed with the Damiano Defence?

To answer the question posted in the title, YES!  Someone does succeed with the Domiano Defence!

Want to know who it is?  Look on the pairing chart and look for the name under "WHITE" in the game where Domiano's Defence is going on!  There's who succeeds!

Wow, Bobby Fischer couldn't beat it.

How embarrassing!

I thought this was going to be about the damiano variation of the petrov.

As many players have mentioned thus far, 3...Qe7 is the only reasonable defense after 3.Nxe5. Usually, the game will continue something like 4. Nf3 d5 5. d3 dxe4 6. dxe4 Qxe4+ 7. Be2 with Black continuing either 7...Bf5 or 7...Nc6.

I love looking at the weirdest openings and I got this at depth 44 on lichess. the evaluations is +1.7 in this position which is not as bad as the computer starts off by saying +2.3 or +2.1 in the Damiano.

And yes I know Nh6 is a weird move

Pardon my ignorance, but why should black not play 5....g6 after 5.Qh5+ ?

Damiano condemned the opening, said it was bad,  sad it became named for him.

Poor Damiano! He says "here's an example of a really stupid defense for black. Don't ever pay like this!" And history rewards him by affixing his name to the very defense he was condemning,

Did you mean 4...g6 after 4.Qh5? if so, 4.Qh5+ g6 5.Qxe5+ Picks up the rook on h8

Ohhh okay, I see thank you!

I'm under the impression that 8. Nc3 Qxc2 9. Qd4 wins almost out-of-hand.

In the Schiffers - Tchigorin game posted by Ziryab, black missed a mate at move 24. This is a famous position and appears in different tactics books.

Ziryab

If I recall correctly, both players missed clear wins. Black's missed mate appears in the beginning of The Art of the Checkmate by Georges Renaud and Victor Kahn.

[In my opinion] If you're an AI we can understand that you play stupid moves but if you're a human  it doesn't make sense.

Example Shakeaspeare (strong personality of the Chessmater program) can play with blacks 1) e4-e5 2) Nf3-Bd6 this move is stupide and unless we have made a mouse error as humans we are not going to play it knowing full well that we have better moves. If you think you're going to beat Shakespeare because he played that stupid move, you're dreaming. After that we would have to do some tests but I am convinced that even in blitz a GMI is not going to beat Shakespeare after this bad move.

1) e4-e5 2) Nf3-f6 this move is stupid or obviously bad, it blocks the natural square of the Knight and weakens the King which gives the idea of the sacrifice in e5 and the worst for blacks  is that it can even work. Now if the sacrifice is not winning or it is confusing, we just play 3) Bc4 and the blacks play a trash.

Clearly this opening has no interest, we are interested in openings not to play trash otherwise we might as well play with white 1) f3-d5 2) Kf2 we will play a trash and if we are gosu it will not be easy to win.

damn, just goes to show, noone's invincible. It was during a simul - the going theory is that rather than trying to give Fischer anxiety or do some weird prepared line he was trying to trick Fischer into believing he was a weak player.
