Sicilian Dragon variation. Why e5 would have been a bad move??

Good evening, I'd like to understand why everybody agree to say that 5. ..e5 would weaken black's pawn structure? Why is it hardly ever played? After 5. ..e5 Whites could respond by 6.Nf3 withdrawing or 6.Bb5+ which is easy to counter for black with Bd7.  And then in a second time ..g6 to make a way for black bishop. Can you explain me what is wrong please, I'm a beginner. Tahnk you.

the point of playing g6 is  to play Bg7, the bishop will be useless with a pawn on e5. also e5 weakens d6 (backward pawn on semi open file) as well as d5.

there are e5 variations but without g6.

i think e5 closes vital diagonal for the g7 bishop.

This is all good and correct info you'll be perfectly happy with until or unless you decide to take up the King's Indian. :)

Apples and oranges. The KID doesn't have a backward undefended d-pawn, and e5 is a variation there to combine with f5 and a kingside pawnstorm in a closed center. Having a loose backward d-pawn would make it ineffective here.

Holy missing the point Batman.

what dinglehorn said is pretty much the answer to your question
