Dunst opening

Let us add an irregular line to the forums:

After the following:

1) What do you think should be the ideas for black & white?

2) Which side do you prefer? (please add your reasoning)

After Nc3 ....d5 tempts the knight into an exchange where black would clearly have the advantage as d5 is protected by the Queen.

e4 challenges blacks right to the centre. An exchange here would put black at a disadvantage. Black could have defended d5 with Nf6 but chose not to. Instead black chooses to exchange pawns on e4.

After Nxe4 and Nf6 I believe white is disadvantaged here. White has the option of retreating to a safe square or defending the knight.

After the exchange of knights on f6 black has doubled pawns and because of this I believe black is slightly disadvantaged. So on this basis I would prefer to be playing white. Also black has an open g file it has to defend and then an isolated h pawn.

I'm not a very good player and make lots of errors so I hope this makes sense.

I would play 2...d4, as 1.Nc3 d5 2.e4 transposes to the Scandinavian, where doing anything but taking the pawn is generally considered inferior. After that specific move sequence? A little plus to White.

Seeing that black as the half open g-file, easy development of bishops and already a pawn putting some pressure on the e5 square which might be battled over later in the game when white plays d4 and Nf3.

White probably needs to play d4 straight away, or his dark-squared bishop could be hindered with 5...Bh6. Not a must though.

Black however has doubled pawns and a damaged kingside. Still, I kinda like black's position. Care to battle one out?

That's why this opening is kind of useless. Any half decent player would see the position after 1. Nc3 d5 2. e4?! and immediately push d5 with and black equalizes (or gets advantage) immediately.

the earlier the deviation, the more prepared the opponent could be. so if its move 1 for white, they could play these lines half the time. (granted most of the 1.nc3 games are just by weak players but still) I like responding to 1.nc3 with ..c5, which is the most popular GM choice. it should just transpose into a sicilian, but if it doesnt I dont think white has much

i used to like an analogous line in the Caro-Kann in speed chess

1e4 c6 2d4 d5 3Nc3 de 4N:e4 Nf6 5N:f6+ gf

when the open file gives good attacking chances (castle queenside or not at all).

i wouldn't like to go into the endgame though.

I'm not a great player but this is my first choice opening, usually rapid development for all pieces and lots of dirty tricks. Along lines of nc3, d5, e4, d4, nd2,e5,ng3, nf6, bc4, be7, d3, c5, nh3
