I know my rating is low, but i love the opening so please answer. basically i play the sicilian but i heard some gm that you should play e4 e5 untill 2000 elo, please recommend some openings.

as black

You should play whatever you like. But for e4 e5 there is Petroff (2.Nf3 Nf6), Philidor (2.Nf3 d6), various Ruy Lopez stuff (2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5), know a line or 2 vs Kings gambit, know how to play Italian game (2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4). Probably you need to be familiar with more things if you play 1.e5 than 1.c5 vs e4.

philidor is easy to counter especially with center variation. i think ill just stay with the sicilian untill 1200 elo thanx!

Just because a GM said it, doesn't mean it's best for everybody. I've played 1....c6 aginst 1.e4 for pretty much my entire tournament "career", and I think my results with Black might possibly be better than my results with White. I know that doesn't make sense, and humans are poor at keeping track of these sorts of things in their heads, but it just feels true.

I have a similar dilemma myself regarding openings happy.png anyway, a solid respons to e4 imo would be d5 for black. (Scandinavian defense) most of the time White Will capture and then u could either recapture with the queen or attack the pawn with the knight and build up a steady position. Good luck.

For someone planning his improvement long term , I would say that 1.e4 e5(with white and black) and 1.d4 d5(with black)  is the place to start.

This doesn't make sense. Your move annotation doesn't make sense. Please explain what you mean by this. Thank you.

I can't say.  I haven't played e5 since I started really studying chess.  I've usually gone with a French or Pirc (mostly French now).  Caro's good too.  I think that the belief regarding not playing the Sicilian is flat out wrong.  I don't play the Sicilian because I decided a long time ago to avoid the theory, but it's a really cool opening and I think that you're limiting yourself by not playing it.  If I could start over, I'd have started with the Sicilian and the French.  Nothing else.

You CAN start over. Play the Sicilian.  You will like it.

Around 2010, IM John Watson wrote, "... For players with very limited experience, ... the Sicilian Defence ... normally leaves you with little room to manoeuvre and is best left until your positional skills develop. ... I'm still not excited about my students playing the Sicilian Defence at [the stage where they have a moderate level of experience and some opening competence], because it almost always means playing with less space and development, and in some cases with exotic and not particularly instructive pawn-structures. ... if you're taking the Sicilian up at [say, 1700 Elo and above], you should put in a lot of serious study time, as well as commit to playing it for a few years. ..."
"... The lessons in the Sicilian, as irrational as they may seem to a relative newcomer, are very important to learn and who's to say that this type of action packed/dynamic chess is not just as good a way to start as the more classical style of chess. I definitely think that playing only 1.e4 e5 until 2000 is way too harsh a restriction in today's world of chess that is so much more than just classical 1.e4 e5 openings. That's not to say it's bad to play only 1.e4 e5 until 2000, but I think it's incorrect to assume that this is the proper way to approach chess development." - IM Greg Shahade (2012) Around the same time, he did acknowledge, "I specialize at teaching players who aspire to be pretty strong...like at least 2200, and usually higher, so I'm less skilled at helping 1500-1600 players without any particular ambitions to become great at chess".

In 2014, Pete Tamburro wrote, "... You will see [in Openings for Amateurs] the reply to 1.e4 to be the great reply of the open games with 1...e5. The Sicilian Dragon is presented as an alternative. ... I have found that scholastic players take to the Sicilian Dragon very quickly. ... A cautionary note: the Dragon is good at club level, but as you start facing better players you're going to find yourself memorizing tons of lines and the latest analysis, ... From my experience with coaching players below 1800, you won't need to do that too much. ..."

What about Shirov gambit in the Philidor defense ? U must be careful as black

2blackrooks

Play whatever suits your style, Why not give the Bishop's opening a go as white and look at the Caro and Slav as black

Ruy Lopez is not boring theory. Follow good books and get a excellent reportirère for it. D3 can be excellent thing. With black follow either Sicilian variations or Petoff with a solid Knight on e4 will make u fall in love with the positions.

And to MiloYiannopoulos, if I am not being rude, try not to be the spoilsport on e4 and learn some good e4 things first and then come to forums complaining about e4.

My opinion is that people in US are not accustomed to e4 very well.

(and are very rich)please do not mind it.
