No kidding? Well, whatever the the terminology is nowadays, 90 min w/incrementals is close approximate to my previous statement (indeed?)
e4 vs d4

It's blitz compared to classical. The official FIDE time control for the major tournaments is 90 min with a 30 second increment from move 1. That's theoretically 2 hours for 40 moves, then 30 seconds a move. So, an official FIDE game is little more than a blitz slop bucket these days.

I like e4, d4, c4 (personally think they are the strongest). Nf3 is cool, if you don't mind transposing into known channels after ...Nf6. Although against an not as "bookedup" opponent it can be awkward (ie he's expecting an QGD, and u bust an Catalan on him-booyah!). But, dude...the Bird? Dunno. Too many weaknesses which lead to lines where black 'lulls' u to sleep and *bam*-u end up w/ an bad (in the worse sense) bishy vs an friggin stallion (of an knight) all over the ur light squares. And talk about king safety if u over-reach...

Helps to have an opening that you are very famaliar with during those blitz games. Even better when your opponent is not famaliar with it.

All in all, as with anything else, try boning up on some QGD, QGA, Torre Attack, Stone Wall Attack, the Tromp, Colle, Catalan lines and trying them out. See if inflicting an minory attack isn't as gratifying...squeezing an opponent into submission. I could go on & on. Let me know how u do (good or bad). That's really all i can say.

My point is, to me, d4 is an reliable friend~in the practical sense~win facing an stronger opponent. You definitely won't face turmoil within the first 10 moves (trust me) from any known QP defence...depending on the variation, often times you have more mobility, space and the initiative. Heh. I know, im just singin to the choir. Sorry.

mmhm
Could you elaborate on that a little ? Afterall , you did get some usefull responses .

d4 is for aggressive players,e4 for theorical ones.It appears strange but in modern chess it is so
Again , this remark shows us that the difference between facts and opinions is still widely misunderstood.
I could easily say something like : red haired people like to play 1.e4 while blonds prefer 1.d4 and state that IT IS SO .
How can you relate an opening-move to a player's character (aggressive/theoretical) or , like ajian says , a player's feeling ?
There are terms like tactics , strategy , aggression , positional , theoretical and so on. All are very usefull when talking about chess. They all have a specific meaning , thus giving us the opportunity to state more precisely what we mean.
So I don't see the relation between aggressive vs theoretical . I DO for instance see the relation between say tactical vs strategical.
Kasparov , probably the world's greatest theorician , played very aggresively . Developing new strategies , he used to finish off his opponents with some fine tactics.

d4 is for those days when you feel like, you know, you want to beat someone or your football team lost a game, unless you're a redhead of course in which case you'd proly play like Na3. e4 is for those days when you are studying for an exam, thinking theorically, studying lots of math, and of course if you are blond, or have just painted your hair a lighter tone, express yourself on the board, just imagine the pieces are crayons and let your inner self out.

World Championship Chess 2020. Cocoanut Bay (Fl) Nutko vs Piaza . Game 1
After opening with 1.e4 reporters stormed the podium asking Nutko what was on his mind .
Are you aggressive ? someone asked. What is your general feeling ? Is this a tactical move or a strategical one ? a guy from NTV-network asked , trying to look smart ...
........................ Needles to say , Piaza won that game.

@AlxMaster
You must have been joking when you slipped in the suggestion of 1.Na3 did you ? Wasn't there recently an article on the Forum about that 1.Nh3 move ?

Beautifully put ! Yes , be that ever learning open-minded child and PLAY !

I prefer 1.e4, because I like playing in open positions. Also, after most of sicilian's lines, white gets a nice attack in the kingside. And, generally 1.e4 leads to open positions, in which it is easier to find an attack. And I love attacking.

How about World Championship Chess 2020. You insert yourself!
Isn't at all ironic that Carlsen plays e4 in Blitz, but plays d4 exclusively in Classical? Makes one think....
Classical chess isn't played anymore. It's all 90 minute blitz games with an increment now.
