I think maybe I should have played Qc3 immediately on move 6
Evan's Gambit

9.dxe5 looks more logical to me. I think 6.O-O is considered inferior to 6.d4, but i can't remember the lines which proves this.
It's a very common mispelling, but in fact this is the Evans gambit (Or Evans' if you want; the guy was called Evans) and not the Evan's.

yes 6 d4 somehow sounds familiar, possibly gambiting some more pawns, but I really don't know a lot about it

In the end you usually gambit the same amount of material, since 6...exd4 7.O-O dxc3?! "compromised defence" is considered dubious as far as i know. I know very little about the evans (and chess in general :P), so don't trust me blindly on this.

In theory, both 5...Ba5 and 5...Be7 are dynamically equal.
Personally i wouldn't mind playing either color, but when Black I have settled myself on declining the Evans (4...Bb6) because I feel this is the move that gives Black the best winning chances, and that with a minimum risk.
Zsolt Almasi, who is "slightly" higher rated than me, obviously agrees.

Tim Harding in his ChessCafe column "The kibitzer" wrote a few articles on the Evans back in 2003 and 2006. Here are the links to pdfs in the archives:

Lately I've been playing all sorts of e4 openings. After playing my first 1K games almost d4 (queens gambit) exclusively, I decided to mix things up.
I haven't done any deep study on the openings though and my rating dropped near 100 points, but I don't really care about that, as long as I'm having fun.
My favourite is the italian game, and I just faced the Giuco piano, so I thought, screw it I'm going to play the Evan's gambit. I probably played it all wrong.
So If anyone has some spare time and wants to go over a few lines, it would be greatly apreciated.
(maybe there is a thread allready, in that case a link would be very welcom)
Here's the game btw:
