f4 or g4

post your thoughts. I prefer f4 since it has less complications and less openings against it, so it is easier to keep the advantage white gets. There are still a lot of sharp positions but compared to g4 i think f4 is easier to play

From the beginning position?

They're both kinda crappy, g4 more so.

If you need a little weird in your life, b4 is probably better than both, imo.

I usually prefer playing f4 on my first move and g4 on my second. Both are good moves, so I like to play them both.

I am not playing any of those openings, but from the positions I can see in the chessboard after 1.f4 and 1.g4, I prefer 1.f4 because the f pawn is the one which is nearer to the centre. Also, after 1.f4 you can play 2.Nf3 and after some move you can also change it in the stanwall defence Wink

I prefer playing against 1.f4 even though it's objectively better than the Grob.  1.f4,c5 or 1.f4,d5 positions are double edged whereas against the Grob taking the pawn after 1.g4,e5 2.Bg2,d5 is sometimes a mistake as white can use the open g-file for attack. It also keeps Nf6 out for awhile, so finding a square of it after ...Nf6-g5 is critical.  Or, play a variation involving ...h5 after the center is established, but that seems a bit risky.
