I’ll bet you’ve never heard of the Sicilian: Slow Variation. (1. e4 c5 2. Be2). I haven’t played it a whole lot, because the engine doesn’t exactly consider it a great opening, but I’ve researched it online and not found very much about it….
Forgotten openings
There are a few openings that are not covered in ECO manuals. Example: The Semi Classical variation (also known as the East Indian) of the KID is one of them. Theory established long ago the Classical variation as being better, so the Semi Classical appears to be forgotten.
None the less after 9. Bb2 the stats are average for both side and there is a a lot of scope for ideas on both sides. I like to play it because with a few KID aficionados, there seems to be void in their knowledge of the theory or there is an underestimation of the line in general.
