good game...I thought you played pretty well. One thing I was wondering about is why does black play 8...Qa5? If I were black there I would play 8. ..cxd4 since the pawn cant be taken back. 9. cxd4 Qxc3+ or 9. Qxd4 Nc6 gives black some initiative. I guess white needs to go for 9. Ne2 Nc6 10. f4, dxc3
@little_guinea_pig - Well done. Don't much care for the French line your opponent chose - the pressure on d4 is relieved almost immediately. Saw the e5 game, which looked interesting until white blundered a piece. I think black was already better there, though.
Meanwhile, my games are still just on move 6-7. The French Defense is an Advance Variation, and the e5 game is a Petroff, which was my regular 1. e4 defense before I went hypermodern. Already having to take great care, though, as I know just how crafty my opponent is, and both openings are quite sharp.

For some reason it won't let me use tables. Anyway, two games per match, one with each color, 1. e4 must be played, and black must play the team's corresponding reply. Time control is 3 days per move.
To the rest of my Team e5 compatriots, I strongly suggest you use the allowed time well. Team French is not only quite strong, but they are generally aggressive players and creative attackers, so playing passively against them is not advisable.

@verylate - Pretty game. Amazing how poor the engine is with the early positional stuff (you were never weaker). The exchange sacrifice on move 22 is a thing of beauty. Your opponent was only a bit passive, but wasted a ton of tempo in the middlegame. You can't beat the French Defense unless you're prepared to attack, but even then you must do so with precision.
