Gambit in the Benoni.

I was playing the Benoni defense and white used an interesting gambit against me.  I didn't play very well and ended up losing, but I think I did alright in the opening.  Is this good for white, and what's it called?

I doubt it has a name.

Where's whites compensation? He has none, especially since he will lose even more tempos after nc6.

I agree with Assault. It is not a good opening for white. White has no pressure on the position of black.

Look after the first four moves. White has played three times with his d-pawn and black touched four different pieces. After the first four moves has black the opening advantage. Then is it not a good idea to start a gambit (opening the game). A gambit is played to be there first. The one with less development will try to keep the position closed.

That is why dxe6 is a bad move compared to Nc3. After the exchange on d5 must black 'lose' a tempo with d6. Now black does not have to do that.

I doubt the e4 was on purpose. i think he meant e3 instead, to develope his Queen and Bishop, that could have been a chance.

I doubt it, because e3 would have been a bad move too. The development of the DSB to g5 makes more sense then the urge to develop the LSB to e2 or d3. Nc3 and next e4 is way better. If there was a mistake, then will I suggest that he forgot to play Nc3 first.

Yeah i don't think e4 was a mistake.

White is a pawn down with no compensation and he will lose another tempo regardless of how he continues. This game could be over in less than 20 if White can't defend those dark squares on the queenside.

5.Bg5 is possible but after d5 6.e4 h6 7.Bxf6 Qxf6 8.cd ed 9.ed Bd6 Black gets compensation anyway.

4.dxe6? is the real error.  Mainline is 4.Nc3 intending to play e4.  By exchanging the d5 pawn for Black's f7 pawn, White is forfeiting most of his space advantage and giving Black a long-term pawn superiority in the center.  (Not to mention opening Black's f file)  I can't think of a single Benoni/Benko line where a pawn exchange on e6 is critical for Black.

I like it when people take on e6 because it opens up a nice file for the rook and gives me a center pawn majority.  I'm surprised people play that way.
