FORUM MEMBERS,  DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF  A GOOD PAWN STRUCTURE  THAT COULD BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE  SCOTCH  OPENING?   i am looking for added protection while developing or aftyer developement.   would  the  stonewall be  of  any use in conjunction with this opening?

thank  you,  inquiring  mind  wants to  know  and  learn.

I don't know how you would set a stonewall formation after opening with the scotch. In the stonewall whites pawn's are on d4,e3,and f4, you can't reach that position if you play the scotch.

here's the mainline in the scotch a

nd stonewall maybe this will help.

Tony, whether it's Scotch (pawn structure irrelevant), or Colle (relevant), the pawn structure is always at the back of our mind, moving our pawns (which can't go back) the right way.  Pawns should work together, and usually you have better position when the pawns are in a chain.  If you can avoid double-pawns or isolated pawns do so.  I hope that helps a bit...

NB. relevant: part of the opening moves.
