a lot of that carnage is sidelines. the theory's sorted by popularity. often, worse moves are most popular.
is there an online resource for checking transpositions? there used to be a database that did all the move orders for a position, possibly "new in chess". i don't want to waste time repeating the same theory over and over. the monte carlo gambit is a transpositional hall of mirrors.
I've been wanting to ditch the scandinavian ever since people started playing the un-named (why isn't it just called?) advance variation and lately now that everyone's playing pavnov attack instead of scandinavian gambit.
been tinkering with various lines I want to try and booking up on keepers, but took a break when something i was training on proved mind numbing. today, i cobbled a quick falkbeer counter gambit booklet and trained it. oh my goodness! it has me more excited than ANYTHING in either branch of scandinavia. it fit like a motherefffing glove! much of the tactical stuff is pure cakewalk and it gets messy before move 10. i can see why it's the strongest performing line against my trusty old king's gambit which is one of the lines i've been book building in. it's super tactical and so far, easy to learn for this gambiteer.
the rest of my 1.e4 e5 repertoire repertoire is looking into any early ...f5 lines that aren't latvian. *cringe*. fritz, schliemann, frankenstein dracula (has good stats and a tacky name), steinitz, falkbeer vienna game (hoping falkbeer's ideas there click too), ponziani counter gambit, 3 knights winawer, steinitz scotch (?), & berlin bishop's opening are my homework.
i was just trying to nab transpositions in the KG falkbeer as figuring an open games repertoire out is difficult with not enough talk about the styles of play of all the main lines. double edged suits me. that early queen & knight run on the h8 rook is ugly, but far from tragic. i see a big leap in excitement i'm not getting from stonewall straightjackets and positional scandinavians.
ultimately, i'll look into 2 knights and marshall gambit. i don't like the idea of needing "another book or set of" to study the marshall which doesn't start until move 8.
i expect my back up to 1600s and climbing rating to go up quick when i'm fully booked up like studying the smith morra did for my rating a decade ago.
if anyone wants falkbeer theory, i'll share my performance under 2000 ratings based tree when it's done. it's hard finding theory for that, especially as black, but i like building from a database better anyways. stockfish & GM recommendations perform terribly over amateur boards often.
there's mates in under 10 on the black (better performing, in fact BEST performing) side of the falkbeer. i got hosed by it badly in one of my own king's gambit games unlike yeah whatever fishers that refute nothing.
you want a refutation. my stats in the mac leod are around 90% or even better. either it's a weak line, or it's where my lust for attacks on f7 come from
if you're a tactician and king's gambit drives you nuts, try the falkbeer. nothing performs better under 2000 and it sidesteps both king's knight and bishop gambits. the theory is like a comfortable old pair of shoes the way everything but the icelandic & portugese isn't in the scandinavian and even better than those. i think those are a couple lines i never wrapped my head around.
