Hah! And they ask me why I play the Russian Game?

Petrov Defense is awesome. (It's also known as the Russian Game.) Many call it boring but it's far from that if white decides to try and spice it up a bit! With Nc3 or d4! Take a look at this! (This was at a 5 0 time control. Pardon our blunders. haha)

Please show me your "russian" games! I'd be happy to see them! :D

I, too, love the Petroff defence. Unfortunately, I can't share my games because they are not yet over. anyways, Is there an active group dedicated to this defence?

No I don't think there is.. Thinking the same thing; I searched for one this morning!

Not analysing a blitz game too deeply hopefully but don't think the Nb-d7 move was too good really. Thought it was better for white to continue with Nc3 rather than Nd2. With quick check with Houdini c4xd5 c6xd5 Qb3 was nearly winning for white. Black would have to respond with something horrible like Nb6 bb5ch Bd7 Ne5 etc.

Of Nd7-Nf6? That secures the knight and reinforces the dpawn with the queen.. You are talking about this variation on moves 7-10 right?

Instead of 9.Qc2, think 9pxp pxp 10Qb3 etc nearly winning for white. So think7...Nd7 not so good.

I don't quite understand the relevance of a blitz game between class B players to the merits of an entire opneing system. I suppose it *can* become interesting, but I've alwats regarded the Petroff as a little dull (I play 3. d4 as white against it to reach more lively positions)

Don't think anyone was claiming this was a model game. There are quite a few lines where white, if unambitious, can force draws. If tries for advantage though black gets plenty of active counterplay. A year or so back was some good articles on this opening on chess com. In one of them shows a good line for black against 3.d4, will give links later.

nice game but I think you missed something in move 56.. a5?! simply 56..e3 queening !!! but you did  well in the openning !

It's quite a controversial line. Sakaev in recent Rep book doesn't think white has enough compensation for peice, but GMs have tried it.

If you allow me just a small comment regarding the endgame, you complicate it a little on move 53...Kb4, when you decide to go for the kingside pawns. You should have played 53...Kc3, and zigzag till you get all of those central pawns.

By the way, great game! It's obvious you master this defense. Congratulations.
