My only real problem with the Halloween Gambit is that Black can return the piece and equalize. Otherwise, I would be more inclined to study and play it
Halloween Gambit line

Yes Gonnosuke, that is exactly what I was referring to. I just couldn't remember for certain if black plays the immediate 5...Bd6 or only after 5...Nc6 6. d5 Ne5 7. f4.
It was probably in one of your posts where I first saw that line. Do we have you to credit for it?
Anyway, I'm just solidifying my repertoire for serious chess, and it looks like a very practical response that avoids the need to learn a lot of theory for a sideline.
I once saw in a forum post a Halloween Gambit line that either went 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Nxe5 Nxe5 5. d4 Nc6 6. d5 Ne5 7. f4 Bd6 or 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Nxe5 Nxe5 5. d4 Bd6, but I can't remember which. My guess is the correct moves for the line are the former, but I really can't remember. Does anyone know the correct moves for the line I'm thinking of?
