Any Ideas on how to play the Halloween gambit outside of the   main lines for white? For black? Anything I should be aware of (besides that the gambit is not sound and not used much in professional play.) ? How about any tricks I can pull with it? Any bit of info helps here people.

Hi ChesskidV,

Don't mistake my post for trolling or criticism. I love the Halloween Gambit and use it both in live and correspondence games. But if I were you, I'd keep that opening on stand-by. The Halloween Gambit is simply of little use given your current rating. With a rating below 1000, start playing simple using the basic opening principles. People still drop pawns and pieces without having to set up traps and tricky lines. Why bother setting up a Halloween configuration, if your opponent can play a move like g5 or Nh6 at any given point?

In order to add something on-topic as well, here a recent game of mine.

could black consolidate if 13 .. d6 aiming for Bf5 and then castling queenside? If white plays Bg5 then the ugly Qf8 seems necessary
