Hi chess.com community,
I was wondering whether any of you know of a good book/training dvd on the Tarrasch Defence (against 1.d4)

Also, I would like to get a general feel on the opinions of this opening. Is it sound? If so, why is it not being used more often at high levels in recent times?

Thanks so much guys/girls. =)

I don't play it myself but I think it's very interesting for black I'm thinking about tryin it out myself.

Did you try searching online? When you google it there are tons of material and the one of the best as usual are on chessgames.com:

It's very sound! Although I will point out that there is only one gambit that I know of in the tarrasch and that's the Schara gambit...Dont play that, it doesn't work haha. I dunno if that was your aim though, just guessin by your monkier

Thanks ShirovStyle, but if it's so sound how come I don't really see it being played more often at GM levels? Is it because of fashion? And haha, yes I do like attacking, but I only play gambits lines which have no definitive refutation.Tongue out

gambitattack:

There seem to be a few out: "Meeting 1 d4" by Jacob Aagaard and Esben Lund, if you can read German, "Die Tarrasch-Verteidigung'" by Harald Keilhack, and a Fritz training DVD: The Tarrasch Defense  by Nigel Davies. Evidently coming soon a "GM Rep 9: The Tarrasch Defence" by Nikolaos Ntirlis and Jacob Aagaard. If you have a database, search for games played by GM Varuzhan Akobian, he seems to have played the Tarrasch.
