I need some helpful info on the Sicilian defense, because I'm going to start playing the opening, I need to know everything that would be helpful to me (a beginner) and that would help me learn the Sicilian defense. What would help me? Thanks,  -KH

Here you go:

Looks like at least a dozen applicable threads.  Bound to be something helpful.  Probably as many approaches as there are chess players.  Luckily we live in the age of "Over Information", now it's about selection.  Good luck. I use FCO for theory and HIARCS to play through master games in a database and play against but there are dozens of good tools.  Heck, as a beginner you could probably get by with Wikipedia entries.  Have fun.

Go to it. Be prepared for alot of losses, and sudden losses. The Sicilian is a tough beast to tame and you do a high wire act with the Najdorf and Scheveningen....the Taimanov though has the reputation of being the most solid of all the variations. As for help, there are many books on the Sicilian. Choose a variation that will be your speciality...then branch out from there.

Keep in mind, the sicilian rarely ends in a draw, and is a fun game to watch. If you play defensive, don't play this opening.

I hope this helped, but if you want more info, i suggest thechesswebsite.com for more about the Sicilian, and more, (don't worry you don't need to pay money or anything)

Avoid chesswebsite's videos, they're quite weak, and often omitt critical lines in view of making the opening appear more favourable.

If you're set on playing the sicilian, the taimanov is probably the best choice in my opinion as you can effectively play most of it without much if any theory.

What variation do you want to play? There are many interesting variations.

I don't really care, I'm new to the opening and want to find something agresssive, I think the Najdorf is absurd because white can check early on before black can play a6 so I'm not sure which vatiation(s) to play. What do you suggest? I'll look into everything of course!

I like the Najdorf variation. The Sicilian Defense, by Lumbomir Ftanick, gives you a complete repertoire.

"Experts on the Anti-Siclilian" is a very good book. It covers all white anti-sicilians, like 1.e4 c5 2.Cf3 d6 3.Ab5+, Alapin, Grand Prix, ...

If you don't like Najdorf, Dragon is an agressive choice. "The Sicicilian Dragon", by David Vigorito, is a good book about it.
