The name? Spassky actually played the Hippo in his match for the World Championship against Petrosian so it has a good pedigree. I think people may hate it for the reason I hate it—the darn thing is just really hard to play against and you don’t see it enough to learn specific moves.

Why does the hippo get so much hate? I get that it is quite annoying to deal with as white but the level of slander I see is much more than the london system or the french. What are your thoughts?
