You could try to transpose like this into a Taimanov Sicilian

This is how you could look to avoid the London entirely!

basically best way to avoid London , never play d5 against d4

this doesn't avoid the london

The secret is to be patient and put in a timely c5. Think of yourself as playing a reversed QGD. if patience is needed as white with pawns on queen four and queen's bishop four, so much more for black when a move behind...

If you know the opponent plays the London then also consider the Modern Defence with a bishop on g2, pawn on d6, and knight on d7 powering through the thrust e5. As black here, look out for rounding up white's DSB with a timely Nh5...

how ?? a london means white bishop on f4 , white kingside knight on f3 and a white d-pawn on d4 for white in conjunction with a black d-pawn on d5 and kingside knight on f6 . by avoiding playing d5 against d4 , you remove the fabric of the London itself !

A London requirement is definitely the black pawn on d5 even if there is no white kingside knight on f3

Nope, the london system doesn't depend on what black plays. It is a setup white plays regardless of what black plays:

Here is an example of the london being played against the KID:

How could you say for the 2nd diagram that white is not playing a london?

You are right. The structure is commonly referred to as the London System. Anyway, I find that funny too. That's like saying 1.e4, 2.Nf3, 3.Bc4 is Italian - no matter what Black plays. 1. e4 e5 is not the same as 1. e4 e6.

And 1. d4 d5 is not the same as 1. d4 d6. In the latter case White cannot put his knight on e5. IMO two different openings. But by definition the London System.

the london is so popular because white just has to remember the meta setups agianst everything and he will never have to worry about losing

so i would recommend the grunfeld setup because it forces white complications if he does nothing

after you get this as black you want Bg4 then you try your best to get e5 in (which usually happens after Nd7)

Avatar of AngryPuffer

also white can never take c5 because it allows black counterplay (which london players fear to death) by playing Nd7-e5-Nxc5

stonewall dutch

38:52 in 52 games BUT I freakin' HATE the stonewall straightjacket, pushing pawns instead of pieces and then unable to create tactics unless opponents make positional mistakes, especially ignoring threats against their open f files

I've been experimenting with this lately
