How do you like to open?

So, I have been playing the Modern Defence (or the Pirc Defence depending on move order and placement) as black and the English Opening as white. All three are hypermodern and have helped me play a bit better. (I am training really hard for some tounaments coming up, which will also be my first few, so excited!!!!) Anyways, thats how I have been playing and am adopting, what approach do you prefer (classical, hypermodern, gambits, or off the wall openings) and why?

I think its better start studying classical openings, then when you get stronger try modern systems.

In the Pirc-Modern defence black leave some space in the centre and can be dangerous if he doesnt know how to react properly.

All of the modern systems/openings leave the center a bit, I feel comfortable with it all, I'm actually not studying openings though. I am studying principles, plans, TACTICS, piece vision, and endgame techniques. Those two (Modern and English) is what I am working with is all. I do feel comfortable with classical setups though, Queen and King Gambit, Spanish Game and it's popular variations, Italian Game, Blackmor Diemer Gambit, and the not so effective Fried Liver Attack, some Sicilian theory. Gave each of the openings a go in atleast 10 slow and fast games (OTB-with friends and online) Thanks for the reply and suggestion!

I used to play a hyper-modern/flank style for the longest time (Alekhine's, KID etc.) but I've been shifting over the years to openings aiming for a classical center, so usually cement a pawn at e4 (e5) then try and get another pawn at d4(d5) by playing it directly, or preparing via c3 then d4 or d3, c3 then d4.
