how many solid studied openings should one player have. I have seen people range from 3-9. i have 6, 2 for white, 2 for black against e4-d4 each. If you look back on my games you'll see a couple of expirements and some sicilians to counter the english, but the main 6 are about all i do. do i play enough or too few

I find an opening i like, and play over the first 5-10 moves so i have an idea of what to do, and then i get familiar with the pawn structure.  Its not really that impressive.  Years of tournament play has shown me that way to much emphasis is placed on openings by class players.  As long as you play common sense moves, and follow opening principles you will get to a playable middlegame.

Also zero. The CK is the opening I know the best, but it's not like I own a book on it or anything. Also, I'm curious about what you consider an opening for White. What are these two opening? First White moves; first Black moves; more specific than that?
