Some use of the word "fun" I hadn't thought of before.

i used to be some weird 1100 who used the grand prix and alapin agianst the sicilian. eventually i wandered into how the open sicilian works and its very different. those brilliant sharp games you see tal, fischer, kasparov, hikaru, etc, are all typically from a sicilian. the sicilian is what makes chess exciting compared to some dull exchange french or some 3 knights QGD

Name a more fun opening than the exchange nimzowitsch, I will wait

I'm not sure what the "exchange Nimzowitsch" is.

Oh, that's why I play 2. Nc3 vs. the Nimzowitch Defense. It is dangerous stuff. Someone I knew ages ago played this and he did win a lot.

I’ve done a vid on the delayed Alapin this is usually my go to when my opponent plays the Sicilian

I mean against the Nimzo-Scandi you play 3. e5 and you’re perfectly fine. That’s why the Linkspringer is better for Black IIRC.

You're already playing the SM against the Sicilian, right @gik-tally? Might I recommend playing 2. Nf3 and simply transposing to the SM against 2... e6 and 2... Nc6 but playing 3. c3 against 2... d6?

If I play 2.Nf3, there's chances that black can prevent smith morra, eg. 2...c4, if anyone does that. I like what I already play just fine. I have an 8%, I think edge with it just playing by feel when ive lost 75% or more of my sicilian games before finding it, getting plenty of miniatures, and having a ton of exciting tactical games and all sorts of crazy new problems to solve. It's exactly why I play chess. It isn't broken and CANT be broken. I'm NEVER going to be a 2500. I'm getting old, my memory's going, and I just can't understand positional at all.

People argue with me about it like all brains are created equal. If 4 authors can't teach me a simple pawn ending, then how in the world can I learn more advanced nimzowitsch concepts? I hate that limitation, but it is what it is. Good thing there's GAMBITs that maximize mobility and tactics.

When I first studied smith morra, I didn't like it at all. It was weird and ugly. When I actually started playing it, I instantly kicked 90% butt with all my pieces ready to pounce on every "positional" mis-step and opponent made. I STILL don't get that from kings gambit 75% of the time struggling hard for wins.

I don't have 90% stats anymore after returning to chess, but I fell hard for smith morra and no one can talk me out of it. It's still a blast to play and gives me the kinds of problems I can solve unlike positional, hypermodern and closed games I can't.

What I NEED to study is the pirc byrne system, owens naselwaus gambit and 1...e5 ...f5 counter gambits to get away from the annoying lines that drive me nuts in the scandinavian, and find solutions more like hartlaub charlick for the london which holds my rating back big time.

Finding tactical lines against position WITHOUT having to fianchetto continues to be my quest. I'm not happy about having to learn the english carokann, but vector gambit sucks and is not a reversed smith morra. I need to get rid of EVERY line i still stonewall.

I need to rebuild my entire black repertoire EXCEPT hartlaub charlick which i love soooo much. It's so exciting to have mobility and open lines with smith morra grade counterplay available.

If there are any lines that IMMEDIATELY rip london and english wide open, i'd sack 3 PAWNS to get mobile against those... that's how much i hate pawns and closed positions.

I don't play for 1 pawn endgames. I'll lose every time there, unless it's an a or h pawn. I'm FINE with sacking a bishop to get a couple pawns out of my way. That's why it took me almost 20 years to find hartlaub charlick. everyone else sees it as so ugly, they refused to share its existence no matter how much i begged for EXACTLY that.

Pawns gone? That's a GOOD THING! Now i can breathe and move QUICKLY. Sack a bishop against 0-0? YES!!!! that's exactly how i play. I knew I loved it before I ever played it. It makes sense to ME the way it doesn't everyone else that doesnt have my positional blind spot... rush in batleth swinging... gik tal (to the death) stovokor! (to the afterlife)

i typically dont enjoy closed games because everyone who plays them plays them so there are less tactics, but i am happily willing to play a closed game if i have a advantage (like in the closed sicilian for black, QGD as white, etc...)
