Obviously often times these openings are named after things such as Grandmaster (Nimzowitsch defense, Lasker Trap, Reti Opening etc.) Places (Berlin, London, Leningrad etc) But sometimes I come across openings that seem to have no researchable origins, such as the John Tracy gambit, or the De Smet gambit. Neither John Tracy or De Smet are famous chess players nor are they famous in general, is there any database where the origins of these names are located or does any one have ideas of where these came from?
Thanks!
