@Steikt, BTW a warning, if you are playin 1...c5 in blitz games, mkre than half the times you would not get the mainlines. There are dozens of antisicilians.
How to learn the Sicilian defense?
Nbd5? I think that looks weird. Is Nb3 the main line? I want to play the sicilian as black, was that for white?
If Nb3 you'll be demolished...
'1700' and you've never played the Sicilian before?
lol, I have played it before but I don't really know what I'm doing when I play it.
I have a lot of experience playing against the sicilian and I don't have any problems playing against it. The only variation I think is tricky is the najdorf, so I think I should focus on the najdorf first.

It will take years to perfect Najdorf.
You could stick to ..1e7-e5 and forget the Sicilian. However, if you feel you must play it, I would recommend the very interesting "Grivas variation", 1e2-e4 c7-c5 2Ng1-f3 Nb8-c6 3d2-d4 cxd4 4Nxd4 Qb6!? Good luck!
Hi. I'm going to learn how to play the Sicilian defense. I have never played it before and I don't know where to start, which version is the easiest to learn? Which is the best / most popular version? Which versions is unnecessary to learn? I play a lot against it as white, but I never play it as black. I have read that it is a good opening for my style of play.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Just play the Kan variation. It's one of the safest variations in the sicilian defense.
Or you can try the Sveshnikov. WARNING the game of Sveshnikov is VERY VERY unbalanced for both sides :/
In Starting Out: The Sicilian, GM John Emms introduces a lot of possibilities.
