How to study Pawn Structure

I read some advice that it is better to study the different pawn structures, before the openings. This will make it easier to learn openings.

So I just started working on the Slav formation in the book Pawn Structure Chess.

I work through the pages in slow pace and focus on repetion. My goal is to get comfortable with the formation and find additional games in databases.

My current rating is about 1600 and I would like to hear other players opinon about studying pawn structure. Eg. amount of time on each structure, material etc. And maybe your current rating to compare ideas.

I would like to get an idea how much this study can benefit at my current level.

You might want to check out Danny Rensch's video series on the caro-slav pawn structure.  There are a number of video series on pawn structure here and I believe the caro-slav is a six video series.  I'm still trying to improve my board vision to keep from dropping pieces, but the staff at chess.com seem to feel that studying pawn structure is the key to understanding openings so it is definitely on my list.  With your rating it seems a very logical thing to be studying.
