I just found out about the Ammonia opening

Sort:
JamosMyNamos
The opening is called the Ammonia opening for two reasons:
1) Ammonia's chemical formula is NH3 (As someone who likes chemistry, that's such a funny nerd touch for me)
2) Just like Ammonia, this opening stinks

UPDATE

After trying this out myself, it's named the Amar opening here. I guess that its name is a bit undecided, with some saying it's Amar and others saying it's Ammonia.

To quote my thorough research from the top Google search:

Analogous to calling the Durkin Opening the "Sodium Attack," this opening could be called the Ammonia Opening, since the algebraic notation 1. Nh3 resembles the chemical formula NH3 for ammonia. The Parisian amateur Charles Amar played it in the 1930s.

I also looked for what the "Sodium Attack" is, and apparently it's just the inverse of the Amar one.

I find it interesting that these openings got nicknames based off of chemical compounds, but I am all for it.
