Thanks for all your help, guys! :) Although, according to this thread, the Scandinavian recieved many feedback as compared to my thread about the Sicilian Defense, which kinda made me questioning myself how such a defense like this can have such popularity, despite knowing from some players that this opening might be a fluke. Ah well, then. XD

What about ...c5 in response to e5?

2 e5 is terrible. exd5 gives a significant edge for White and e5 gives equality at best but I'd say White is worse.

Significant edge?

E-mail GM Kotronias to withdraw his book. The ignorant says that Black equalises.

That's obviously not true. If the Scandinavian equalized then 1 e4 would be discredited. If you don't like that reasoning, look at the computer evaluation.

Here's your help:  don't play it, it's rubbish.

2.e5 just gives Black an improved French defense. It's playable but it doesn't give Black any problems to solve. It's just something you play because you want a particular structure and to just change the nature of the game in exchange for the opening advantage.

The main lines of the Scandinavian seem to give White attacking chances simply by playing natural moves. Maybe this video will help:

The November 2016 issue of Chess lists the top twenty openings compiled from a list of 2221 September games where both players were rated over 2400 Elo. One can not take position on this list too seriously because it is greatly influenced by how the openings are grouped. For example, all the Retis are grouped together, while English is separated into 1 ... c5, 1 ... e5, etc. Nevertheless, for what it is worth, some of the list entries report: 119 Retis, 81 Caro Kanns, 72 1 ... c5 Englishes, 69 Najdorf Sicilians, 64 2 Nf3 d6 sideline Sicilians, 58 1 ... e5 Englishes, 52 Taimanov Sicilians, 49 2 Nf3 sideline Sicilians, 49 Kan Sicilians, 45 Berlin Ruy Lopezes, and 43 Closed Defense Ruy Lopezes. Don't see any entries for any sort of Scandinavian. I suppose it is possible that the Scandinavian did not make it into the top 20 because it was split into 3 ... Qd6 Scandinavian, 3 ... Qa5 Scandinavian, etc.

Apparently, someone believes that the list is of interest to readers of the magazine, Chess.

Yes... it's clear that neither kindaspongey nor jengaias has heard that old saying:
