How is that a gambit? It's more of a bad exchange sacrifice that you would maybe see in a bullet game. Heck the Fred is better than this and Stockfish hates it more

why do you think people play the queens gambit when they lose a pawn for nothing?

You sacrifice the pawn for counterplay. A decent gambit will give you some sort of initiative and usually gives up a piece without immediately getting it back like an exchange. Of course, due to theory, the Queen's Gambit is not really a gambit as if White plays well enough, he can win back the pawn against Black's best defense at protecting it. 

Also, this so-called "gambit" loses control of the center and White will be able to play Nge2 and castle anyway. On top of that, gambits generally are played to also get a lead in development which is hardly the case here

Or White!  2.Nc3?  Come'on, man!  Outside of the Jobava or Veresov, nobody plays Nc3 in Queen Pawn openings without first playing the c-pawn.  You play a ridiculous move like 1...a5, I'm playing 2.e4 immediately!
