IQP repetoire

can anyone help me with creating a repetoire for getting as much IQPplay as possible? im now doing a "deep" study of IQPpositions and while im doing it i would love to have an repetoire that exposes me for it as much as possible. i want to think on just about nothing else than isolated queenpawns for the next few months. perhaps its a big demand to ask, but any help is appriciated:) merry christmas

thanks for good suggestions:) but im a little hesistant about that 1.d4 part because i always preferred 1.e4. any 1.e4 repetoiresuggestions is very appriciated. against caro kann i just go panov botvinnik attack and i think c3sicilian will give me isolated queenspawns against the sicilian...but if 1.d4 give better odds of IQP i will try it out for a while

Perhaps you may check 'Revolutionize Your Chess' from GM Moskalenko. He studies the IQP middlegames and endings, although he is not giving a full repertoire it may be useful  to create it.

Good luck.

thanks i should check it out. i dont expect its possible to create a full IQP repetoire but as much IQP as possible would be cool:)

here's a variation from an italian game i saw once. I think its from a video lesson by GM Melikset Khachiyan on chess.com. Perhaps someone else knows more about it.

I would not recommend to switch from 1.e4 to 1.d4. Switching openings too often is the biggest mistake you can make, especially when you feel comfortable playing 1.e4.

my recommendation:

white:

  • c3-Sicilian
  • french: Tarrasch(3.Nd2) or Exchange Variation
  • Italian game against 1...e5
  • mainlines against the Petrov
  • Panov-Botwinnik against Caro-Kann

black

  • against d4 + c4(Nf3): Tarrasch/Semitarrasch or QGA or Nimzo/Semitarrasch
  • against e4: Sicilian or Petrov or French

I played the sicilan about 6 times in tournament chess (1800-2000elo), 5 times I encountered the c3 sicilian. ThePetrov has the advantage that later on it is easier to switch to the Ruy Lopez since you have experience against the Kings gambit and 4 knights games. But if you want to play the IQP on a regular base go with the French: 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 c5 and 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 dxe4.

You should also look at the games of Karpow for some IQP action.

tigergutt

lots of good advice here. i will continue with my kings gambit because i have a soft spot for it. in addition i will use the c3sicilian, exchangefrench and panov botvinnik attack. the petroff i dont face because of 2.f4 (thank god).

i already play the tarrasch defence against 1.d4 and i love it. i dont think its likely that my opponent will throw out the frenchvariation you mentioned. perhaps when i get more rating:) i guess i could try out the petroffvariations. i always played 1.e4 e5 anyway. what sicilian line are you thinking of? you mention it from the black side. could you also give me some hint on how to do it from the nimzo and QGA? im pretty lost in d4 territory:(

c3 Sicillian maybe?

An interesting way to build a repertoire Smile

Here's how

1) french

1. e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3. exd5 exd5 4. c4

2) caro-kann

1.e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4. c4

3) Scilian

You could play alapin c3 but you can't force black to give you IQP.

4) others

You need to work out something if black plays e5/g6/b6/Nf6/d5/d6. In IQP you can't force black to give you that. If your opponent knows you are good in IQP they can avoid it.
