Parham does not yield any more attacking possibilties than the catalan does as long as black isnt completely retarded. The catalan also has the advantage of actually playing for a russian win instead of being an idiot who has wasted 23 pages on chess.com ''trolling'' people by constantly spouting shit he himself does not even believe.
He plays the parham so he can fool himself that he really isnt as bad as his rating suggests - if he only played a more serious opening he'd be 1800. It's a win win situation for him

Curious guy: I don't have Houdini, but my old Fritz tells me after about five minutes of running that in Jesusfreak's position above, black has about a -.09 advantage. Hardly meaningful, but do with that info what you will.
Actually what he said is consistent with what I've heard from other strong players. Engines just don't play certain positions well (most KID positions for example). That doesn't mean that I could beat an engine by playing the KID, or even that IM pfren could. It just means that their analysis is not very reliable here.
Also, you cannot compare engine ratings to FIDE ratings. Houdini's FIDE rating would likely be much much lower than 3500.
