White could still manuver his knights over and attack. Black's king has a fairly exposed pawn structure, although he does have the bishop pair, white's king is safe. But congratulations pfren, in 40 pages you are the first one to find a line where black doesn't lose material!

Black can play pretty much anything and have an equal game against the Fartham attack.

This is not the point though- I am claiming that the early ...Na5 idea, as played in that game or even one move earlier, gives Black a small advantage.

Personally, I'd like to move d3 earlier. If you play Nbc3 early, Nb4 can screw you over.

Nb4 - what for?

It's supposedly only White the one who aimlessly wanders his pieces, not both players.

After Nb4, white would have to do Bb3, then black, who should've already played d6, can do Be6, and white is pretty much screwed.

And BruceBenedict, I assume you mean 2...Nf6, in which case black gives up a pawn to let himself be attacked by white.

Your plan sounds great, but has a little flaw: White can move too, actually there is a new rule of chess which says only one move at a time is allowed. So: 6.Nbc3 Nb4 7.Bb3 d6 7.a3 and the knight has to go back. Funnily enough Black may still be equal, which shows how "dangerous" the Fartham is.

2...Nf6 is a good move, but I think it just gives enough for the pawn. I prefer what I've already claimed- equal pawns, two bishops, easy and solid game.

I think you don't need an opening, but rather a course on the absolute basics of chess strategy- you obviously either ignore them, or have never heard about them.

The game you have in mind is not chess, but some other fictitious game. Just invent it's rules, and then you can be the first World Champion.

White has nothing to fear from ...Bg4. He can simply play 7.d3, when that ...Nb4 and ...Be6 nonsense doesn't work. Maybe something like 7.d3 Nb4 8.Bb3 Bg4 9.Qg3 Be6 is better, but still I see no advantage for Black. I repeat that I'm not interested finding equality for Black, this is very easy.
