Is sicilian defence good against e4?
Avatar of iceyww

Yes but has a lot of theory. I personally play Caro kann

Sicilian is very good, but requires a lot of studying. Sicilian e6 lines (kan / taimanov ) are pretty playable without knowing too much theory in comparison to the Najdorf.

Personally, the Philidor opening and caro/slav opening are OP happy.png maybe experiement with g3/g6 side lines for catalan / grunfeld type position

Its really hard to tell.

If you wanna spend your whole free time to study opening theory for sicilian defence - go for it. If no, then go for it but loose every single match... 🙃 If you tend to play offensive and aggressive (and according to your opening wishes you are that type of player) there are another openings with less theory behind it, which you can use as your lethal weapon against the enemy. 😉 Personally, at e4 i am playing Icelandic gambit. Very littls

... little theory, and still aggressive enough to sattisfy my bloodthirst. 😃 Ofc not as aggressive as sicilian but i am too lazy to learn 20 of different move orders of many types of that opening.

There are around 40 different setups for black as a Sicilian defense. It took me 2 years at 1700 to learn it and not get checkmated. If you don’t know the middle game plans for the Sicilian you are in for trouble. Here’s a start.. https://youtu.be/4MHicEPcn3c?si=cbH-QMD-tjHNrXVD

Yes, as black attack the queen side, dont be timid. White will attack the kingside. Every move in the opening has an idea behind it and a counter idea for the move on the other side. Most set ups are similar in the opening. It is move order that gets switched up.

Probably the best.

Yes, it is extremely good, but extremely, extremely sharp and complicated. If you make a single mistake as either side, (and being a sharp opening, or one with many tactical consequences, it is quite easy to do this if you dont know theory, especially in sharper variations like the najdorf or dragon) your peices and pawns may crumble into a sad excuse of a position. However, it can also lead to amazing games. It is extremely complicated, and probably shouldn't be used by anyone unless they are willing to study a ton. Then again, Im a 850 (progressing though) so who am I to tell you what to do?

The Kan, Taimanov, Classical, Najdorf, Hungarian Dragon, Dragon, and Sveshnikov are fine, but I wouldn’t really recommend much else.

I don’t play it but I analyse the najdorf

Yeah, well sicilian move orders and transpositions are a pain for white too.

the sicilian is probably the best opening for black, (mainly the Accelerated dragon)
