I’ve been about 400-500 elo and started to play the scotch and don’t really know if it’s good or not, I’ve just been playing it

Of course. Its a natural opening. It will serve you well.

Yes, it's a very good opening. It's one of the big 3 vs e5 (Ruy Lopez, Italian, Scotch).

You can also play Scotch vs Sicilian and it's even better.

2.Nf3 3.d4 against the sicilian isnt the scotch, its the main line

also, 2.Nf3 3.d4 is a thing against the petroff

and to the main question, yes

the scotch is good for beginners

open positions

tho your opponent will just take your knight on d4 way too much

and who cares that in gm level, the scotch wont give an advantage

we arent gms

the other two are more closed (sometimes) and your opponents will maybe have more experience facing them

so theres also a bit of surprise factor

yes, especially if you struggle to remember openings. It is principled ,intuitive and by releasing the tension early, somewhat defangs black of tricky play.

Especially the Exchange Variations (5. Nxc6 in the Schmidt and Classical). It also helps that those lines score best too.
