Is this Gambit sound?

Having already seen an article on the Englund Gambit, 1 d4 e5, I was inspired to try it out twice in a recent rapidplay tournament - and I scored 2/2. See what you think - Comments welcome!Smile

Very unsound....

I think this is one of the worst gambits out there. Your opponents had clearly not studied this opening. The second played into the classic 4.Bf4 trap, which is one of the first things mentioned when studying this line. Neither played 4.Qd5, which is supposedly a refutation of 3...Qe7.

You seem to be sending mixed signals by asking this question in the thread title and then posting these two games. I think, at your level, you are still catching your opponents unprepared with this gambit. Do you really care how objectively sound it is, when you are still winning and having fun with it?
