Here's the position:

And here's how to reach it (from a Marshall Defense I think)

This position has arisen from many live games I played here (a chess.com novelty? -:)).

I must admit i'm in a loss here; don't have the faintest clue what to do. I tried retreating moves like Qd8 or more forcing ones like Qe5+ and always winding up in not so great or interesting position for my taste. Is there something more entreprising Black can do here or the moves I given are incidentely the recommanded ones?

Thanks for any feedback...

Why not ...e6 ? (My very penny)

Dont trade queens. Black is fine here but a trade just is bad technique. Whites queen is occupying the knight's most natural square so leave it there. Qxf3 just helps white develop.

really all you can do here is try to play for an equal game. for some reason I want to play Be6 and follow up with Nc6 and a quick 0-0-0 to punish white for their lazy play

you might also try Qf5 attacking the c2 pawn if white trades your essentially playing the the white pieces and still can play Nc6 and 0-0-0

Alright thanks for the insightful comments folks.

For the general consensus, we know (well especially me nowTongue Out) that since the game is dead even and really no weakness is found in either camp, keeping or exchanging the Queens don't seems to matter much. Maybe exchanging them should be better since just moving the Queen around wastes additional tempis as pointed out by Estragon for nebulous results. We can go straight for 4...Qxf3 ourselves or let White show his stuff after either 4...e6 or 4...Be6 which have been proposed.

From then expect for major blunders, the game should sail in calm waters and the final result should be a ½-½ which is never negligable for Black.

Finally thanks Estragon for the B02 ECO code reference. This position can be reached from a Alekhine's Defense or Marshall's Defense as seen.

Cool

I play the scandinavian a lot in blitz, and I always play Qc5 here... good blitz move because it keeps material on and attacks c2.  Not a bad move in general either :p

Obviously you don't take on f3, helping white develop.  His queen is taking up valuable knight space on f3 heh... unless you hate to play chess with queens still on or something.

Alright now we can add 5...Qc5 in the list of choices aiming at the little c2-morsel in White's position while preserving the Queens for a little extra time. Interesting.

@Estragon call me weird or anything but... Seeing your posts here or in the forums in general is very refreshing... You got a way with words for which I really appreciate. Is excellent penmanship can an be applied when writing in the WEB? Smile By my "general consensus" I wished to accomodate everyone's ideas equally but ain't easy! Ain't easy! Thanks for thoses additional "pearls of wisdom"!

@paulgottlieb probably at this point either me at my simple level or my opponents got any ideas on how to conduct the game. But sometimes the game continue with additional pressure at the knight with Bc4 at some point. Is this the general follow-up here?
