Which is better scotch game or Italian game

Astrogash2009

I am playing Italian game for 7 months I raised my rapid rating from 400 to 1136 , I'm suggesting Italian opening for beginners because, it gives the sequence of fried liver attack

Italian game is my favourite opening. I'm 754 rated (at this moment). I raised 650 rating points just by playing it . (I was a 100 elo dummy)

Luckily enough, something I will never have to worry about. As Black, after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3, I avoid both of them and the Ruy Lopez with 2...Nf6!

White? 1.d4!

I like the Petroff

But Italian game is not so good after 1000 elo barrier, because most of the guys know how to defend it , I really confused to change my opening from Italian game to scotch gambit. According to gotham chess "no changing in opening untill you mastered in new opening"

I have no idea about petroff , how to play it

Planet has taste and style; I second their post. I've been playing the Scotch for along time, and the Italian and Scotch are both very beginner friendly and both have gambit lines for those inclined toward drunken cavalry charges.

The Scotch Game is better. The move d4 opens the black squared bishop and defends the knight if it ever wants to go to g5 for the fried liver attack. The Italian game excludes d4, which saves a pawn, but makes it harder to fully develop

Apparently you don't know what you are talking about.

Nothing makes sense in your post, but how on earth "the black squared bishop and defends the knight if it ever wants to go to g5" when the knight is at d4 already and likely to be exchanged soon?

And in the Classical Italian, white DOES go for an early c2-c3 and d2-d4.

e4 e5 nf3 nf6, if nxe5, then d6, then recapture on e4. if white then plays Qe2, play Qe7, and if D4, then D5

Mazetoskylo. I DO know what I’m talking about. I play the Scotch all the time. You push d4 to open up your black bishop, which scopes g5, therefore defending that square in case the kingside knight dreams of going there. The knight is NOT likely to be exchanged, especially when black captures d4 with their e pawn. If you want to discuss, just message me, or challenge me when I’m online. Thanks! :)

Scotch games have specific counter gambits ,if we tackle it , the position would lead to draw , if we had no idea about it, the game is completely lost

Astrogash2009

Italian game have a counter gambits like traxlar gambit and blackburne Shilling , It can be easily tacklable . That's why, OLD IS GOLD

TheNightAblaze

do you have a thing against the scotch game? it seems like you hate it lol

The Scotch, by our oath.

"And tippin 'oer our king, many moves from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the moves, from this move to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our opponent that they may take the point, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!"

The Italian is infinitely rich and timeless, whereas the scotch is very limiting and forcing... it's also scoring very badly in a number of lines. Scotch is for low elo players who want something formulaic where hopefully the opponent just won't know it... For serious players the Italian is easily the better choice. Especially considering e4 is the most common move in the game, so it's very likely your opponent will know how to deal with the Scotch, assuming they know anything.

If I really wanted to play an opening rich with chaotic ideas, I'd play the Danish and recite passages from the Iliad.

Scotch

The Italian is way better because it is a widely used opening and is easy to understand.
