King's Gambit A Challenge From Ponz

Bc4 is an inaccuracy at best, :P (at least according to my book on the King's Gambit, by GM John Shaw)

h4 is the other main option, but you will see that Nc3 is a rarer move. Some people, such as Shaw do not like Bc4, but it is far from proven either way. part of the reason i enjoy the opening. In both my opening books Bc4 is a suggested move. I do not think there currently is a right answer here

I like 4. Nc3, although I wouldn't touch the King's Gambit in a serious game.

And if you ever find yourself a thousand points or more stronger than you are right now, the move you play that early in the king's gambit just might help to determine whether you do or not.

I don't even play e4, so I strongly doubt that!  And I don't think I will ever reach USCF 2952 :(

Some players move fast as some games are already at a point where things start to get interesting. As White, I hated the main line of KGA where Black sets up f4-g5-h6 Bg7 structure - it is a hard nut to crack!  Therefore I am looking into the Bishop's gambit which I believe is a fun alternative. The game against Dzikus would be a gem for me to look at, even though Ponz rejected the early ...Qh4+ so it can transpose back to the Nf3 KGAs.

Its interesting to see Ponz playing the Black side of King's gambit. A Scandinavian player usually prefers Solid structure and (sometimes) piling up on the open d-file etc. I would love to see how he would fare against the Blackmar-Diemer gambit.

Dear spectators, here are the links to some of the games that are already close to middlegame. I rounded the opponents current rating to nearest 50.

Ponz right now is saying to himself: "What the hell am I doing? This is very hard!  Why couldn't I keep my big mouth shut and not take on another challenge like this? Frown

Oraoradeki  thanks much for the links!

I would beg to differ, and willing to play a game against you (Correspondance style as I have trouble finding time for live chess these days)

I do not think 3. ..d5 is as good as 3. ...g5 but wanted to vary.

3. ...d5  is easier to play than 3. ...g5 and since they do not run into the Kings Gambit that often--maybe that is why they play it?

ryszardos

Do you think you are better than Fischer? He wrote that 3...g5 is inexact because it gives White drawing chances after 4.h4 g4 5.Ne5 Nf6 6.d4 d6 7.Nd3 Nxe4 8.Bxf4 Bg7 9.c3! Qe7 10.Qe2 Bf5 11.Nd2; according to him the waiting move of 3...d6 is the best.

That was a long time ago. Theory changes.
