King's Indian Defense response to bishop/queen attack on h3 pawn

Hello,

I'm a pretty weak player at the moment. I've played the KIA/KID for the majority of my games here. I'd like some advice about what to do in the above situation. Whenever this happens, I seem to lose when white begins to launch a king side attack through pushing up the pawns. Is there something wrong with how I set up my King's Indian Defense?

Thanks!

Edit: Messed up the title. Should say H6 :P

First of all this is not a KID without c4. Rather it's a Pirc - there's a big difference between these systems!

I don't know Pirc too well but propably you haven't done anyting terribly wrong yet although 6... h6?! certainly seems very unnecessary. You are ahead in development so why not begin your counterplay. Moves like 6... a6 intending b5 or 6... c6 intending both d5 and b5 come to mind as well as 6... Nc6 intending e5. Another move you could certainly at least consider after Bc4 is the pseudo-sacrifice Nxe4. Eg. 6... Nxe4 7. Nxe4 (Bxf7+) d5 8. Bd3 dxe4 9. Bxe4 c5.

Thanks. The Nxe4 move looks interesting. I'll definitely try it :)

H6 was to prevent Ng5. I didn't want 7. Ng5 8Bxf7+ 9. Nxf7 happening because of where it'd put my king

Ng5 isn't a threat. You should be able to play 7... h6 8. Bxf7+ Rxf7 9. Nxf7 Kxf7 and two pieces are usually better than one altough the difference is not very big. Even if it were a threat you should be looking more active ways to defend like 6... c6 7. Ng5 d5.

i agree with what others are saying. move 6...h6 just creates a target and gets you off the typical things player's go for in the kid.

You shoud try knight back to d7 or e8 with the idea of pushing f4. to be followed by a soon f5. The locking of the pawns in this way protects your king more. Then h6 is starting to look serious.
