King's Indian Defense?

I have been very interested in the King's Indian Defense lately. I was wondering what other people think of this opening? Do you play it? Do you like it better as white or black? What's your favorite line?

Here is what Wikipedia saya about it:

"The King's Indian Defense is aggressive and somewhat risky, and generally indicates that Black will not be satisfied with a draw. Although it was played occasionally as early as the late 19th century, the King's Indian was considered inferior until the 1940s when it was featured in the games of Bronstein, Boleslavsky, and Reshevsky. Fischer's favored defense to 1.d4, its popularity faded in the mid-1970s. Kasparov's successes with the defense restored the King's Indian to prominence in the 1980s."

I also created a King's Indian Defense tournament, so if you want to play this opening please feel free to join. Here is the link to it:

KID is a great line, often very deep strategically which can cause problems for beginners.  I play the Nimzo/Queen ID complex for the most part but have experimented with the KID (& QGD, QGA, Slav, Grunfeld, Benoni).  I use the set up more when White wants to start with Nf3, c4, or other QP game setup.  I find it an adequate answer to unusual white ideas I'm not prepped for.

It is my main response to d4. I really like its flexibility. You attack the white king where ever he is. If he castled queen-side you start a queenside attack with a6 and b5, and if he castles kingside you start a kingside attack with f5 followed by a kingside pawn storm. If he doesn't castle you break open the center with f5, c3 and b5.

My favorite lines are when white castles kingside (usally white plays 5.Nf3 and not the popular 5.f3) and black starts a strong kingside attack with f5.

The KID is my favorite opening.  But to play it well from the Black side, you have to be aware of one important concept.  When you play 3....Bg7, you are giving White an advantage in space, both in the center and the Queen-side.  That advantage may well be fatal in the long run, if Black "shifts wood" and plays uninspired chess.  With the KID, realize that material doesn't really count--as Black, you normally have to sacrifice some material (a Pawn or two, the c8 Bishop, etc.) in order to get tactical compensation for White's advantage in space.  So play the KID with this attitude--White can have his winning endgame, so long as you mate him before it gets there.  And don't worry about material--you can count pieces when you set up the board for the next game.
