You have to understand that Whites advantage claimed by books is temporarily or let's say spatial based on activity, not positionally. If Black reacts calmly recapturing on f6 with the g pawn and waits the right moment to castle Qside then positionally is at least equal. Whites chances run out on the pressure down the two open files d and f . If Black consolidates his defense there White has nothing to play for than maneuvering and shuffling pieces around.
This is the reason the Max Lange gambit is popular only in amateur level and speed games.
Here a recent OTB classical game from a 2400 player playing Whites who couldn't find anything tangible to play for.
hi chess.com members! I have been studying this gambit also known as the deutz or max lange gambit. The idea of the gambit is to transpose into the max lange attack if black plays 5...exd4.(5..nxd4 is considered bad). I found that white has lots of tricks and in these lines and black has to be quite careful and that even with perfect play from black white usually obtains a comfortable position. However, I am struggling against the following line and i request you good players out there to give your suggestions about what white should do after 11...Ne6 from black.
i am open to any advice.By the way, if you want to learn more about this gambit you can read john emms's book" dangerous weapons e4 e5" by going to this website(i'm not fully convinced with his solution to this problem of mine)www.scribd.com/document/278986817/Dangerous-W-Weapons-1-e4-e5-Emms-Flear-Greet
Thanks for your help!
