Lucky to Survive in Spite of Opening

So my rating is climbing lately as I have been winning most of my games.  Granted one of them was a timeout which I don't like but I have been pulling out some wins.  I do feel good that I'm rated higher now (and I have some wins around the corner I think) than I ever have been but I really just feel lucky.  Is that possible to be rated 1400+ and climbing due to luck?  My openings are just a total crapshoot.  I have NO idea WHAT Im doing and it's so frustrating.  I really feel like I trip and stumble my way to wins and I don't like that.  Any opinions?  Thanks for your time.

Chess is not about opening theory.as long as you have good tactical and positional vison you won't lose.just my opinion(it's one thing to memorize the first 12 moves or so but it's what happens after that which proves your skill at chess).

I was looking at something called The Spanish Torture which looked like a decent way out of one of the holes in my typical opening.
