So this is not likely the best example of playing against the Macdonnell Attack, but I was happy with it. 

My main question though is this: when I went over the game, the move g6 was considered the top line moves but in the game analysis, it rated it as an inaccuracy. This is more of a sideline variation so I'm a bit confused about the assessment.

Nce7-g6 Be7 eyes both the e5 and f4 pawns with 0-0 f6 later while keeping flexible should it prove beneficial to leave your king in the center or castle long, while g6 Bg7 blunts your DSB and your pawn break and makes your plans rather passive and slow.

true there are lots of inaccuracies plus that M1 Blunder was tragic
