Modern beginnings

Hello,

Not that long time ago I came back playing chess. Since I did not have any good opening which I like against d4, I am looking forward for something new. What is popular nowadays and give black a decent position after beginning.

I heard that 1.d4 Nf3 2.c4 e6 3. Nf3 b6 (Nc3 Bb4) is quite popular any ideas of that?

I know that there are plenty sources of theory and so on but I just hoped that forum will raise more interesting discussion

1) d4 cf6 is called indian defence.Black leaves centre to white that occupates it with a pawn chain but meanwhile black developes all his pieces and begins to attack white centre.Your two variations are called westindian and nimzoindian defence.

About westindian i am not an expert so i suggest u to study games of Judit Polgar and Karpov.In nimzoindian black would be happy to put a knight in e4 square maybe followed by ...f5, problem of nimzoindian is that if white does not play 3) cc3 u need play another defence.
