Here's a thought: take a look at the openings with the highest win percents. For White, one of the best openings is when Black plays the Latvian!

One line that looks good  for white statistically is the Goring Gambit. White gets a classic attack and good winning chances. In my database, White scores 58% (the average opening scores ~54%), with only 22% of the games being drawn (the average is 30%).

I'm not claiming the Goring is better than the main lines. I am claiming that it's a pretty decent aggressive line.

By comparison, the Evans isn't particularly aggressive. It scores 39% wins, 38% draws and 23% Black wins against all opposition. White's winning chances drop dramatically when higher rated players only are considered. Black actually has a plus score when only master games are considered! The Evans turns out to be far more drawish than the average opening!

It's possible to play aggressively and still play for the win. Openings that jettison pawns for no good reason are generally good, for the other side. Take a look at the stats on the Latvian for just one example.

Oh databases...maybe a convincing justification for me to play the Blackmar-Diemer-Gambit could be, that is has the highest winning ratios in most databases...check it out just at here at the chess.com-database for example.

By the way...i like my personal stats with the Latvian and thats what counts for me personally. I wouldnt play the QGD even it has a winning ratio of 90%.

What's so bad about the QGD? I'm more of a Slav/Nimzo/KID guy but the QGD is a great choice..

the MORRA !MORRA is the most agresive opening! either that or the Scotch Gambit.

Bent Larsen once annotated a game between Smith and Paul Keres. "1.e4 e6? 1...c5! would have won a pawn."

That's how just about every GM considers the Smith-Morra. White can get the same sorts of attacks in the Sicilian without throwing away a pawn.

ellie100

but then you dont have a open c-file which is very useful if you want a stronger attack and you normally win back the backwars d-pawn anyways.

The attacks in the bg5 najdorf are way more dangerous for black than anything in the smith morra..

I play the nbd7 variation now against it because I hated the positions I got most of the time after the usual f4 qf3 stuff. When I tried to analyze these positions with stockfish it kept telling me black is fine and castle kingside, which is just insane..

SmyslovFan

The big books say the same thing. Basically, if you play the Sicilian as Black, be prepared to get attacked on the K-side.

1. Kings gambit

badatthegame

Most aggressive is imho the poisoned pawn variation in the najdorf sicilian: 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cd4: 4.Nd4: Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Bg5 e6 7.f4 Qb6!? 8.Qd2 Qb2: 9.Rb1 Qa3.

The poisoned pawn is a drawish line apparently at master level but most people would get crushed with black under 1700 or so because of the tactics

It's only drawish if White wants it to be.

Doesn't black have a say in this??

In a way, no.  White can play forced draws in the poisoned pawn if he wants to, which is why I don't play it as Black anymore.

For most aggresive for white, I think that the Halloween Gambit is a strong, aggressive opening. Not very sound, but its got aggressive covered.

Muzio gambit for white

Latvian gambit v/s e4

Benko gambit v/s d4

You can get a sampling of the most aggressive openings imaginable if you play the chess.com computer at levels 5 or 6.  It acts as though chess were a mate in three game at the outset.  You will find the computer's queen, bishops, and knights all over your position in just a few moves, often to the computer's disadvantage, since a little pawn tickling can drive the pieces away -- sometimes.

most aggressive opening that is regularly played at club level is probably the Danish gambit. most aggressive opening that is regularly played by GMs has to be the dragon, both players (but especially black) are constantly on the verge of desaster in many lines...
