What are the most played openings and variations thereof? I have searched but cannot find such a list.

reti, queen gambit, king indian defence, french and sicillian kings indian attack all quite popular readers digest has an opening directory so you can find somthing you like in that

Just click on Learn menu and then on Book Openings. It looks that the most popular opening is the Alapin variation of the Sicilian.
