Need direction

Hello,

I love chess and according to this website play right around the 1300 level.  I need to find another white opening or two to focus on.  My favorite opening is the old, old bishop opening.  My question is which opening should I look to to get a similar game as the bishop opening?

The Italian is similar to the Bishop's Opening and does offer certain transposition possibilities.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4

Postscript: I am a avid player of the Bishop's Opening and hope you continue to play it.

I think the most similar is the Vienna, 2Nc3

The Vienna has wild lines like the Dracula-Frankenstein variation which you would need to be prepared for. I think the Italian is the most similar. Of course, the Italian has sharp lines too but the White has a choice of avoiding them. I would say study many of the lines that the Bishop's Game can transpose to. I played it for awhile, and the Vienna, Italian, Giucco Piano, Giucco Pianissimo, and King's Gambit Declined are all possible ways the game could go. Most of my games went 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6, so that's how I would determine where to steer your games.

Ive seen otb 2200+ rated players play the bishops opening and get a good name. its a solid choice, just not in "style"

and style does not matter
