I watched Romain Edouard videos, it should be the most honest, as a player the guy peaked at 2702. so he knows the high level and has a clarity of vision on openings due to the heavy work he has done to get there.
The repertoire is very well balanced between solidity and prospective of winning.
This is very good work, and not an overwhelming load of information.

Thanks @ifuinsist. Out of interest, what are his recommendations?

Whats the problem with 8. Qg4?  after 8..Nc6 it seems risky for white to take on g7.

You are right. When looking at it it does not seem very terrible for Black but I am still not entirely convinced.

Here are a few example lines:

Personally I wouldnt play 9...h6 I would sacrifice the h pan too. 9..Rg8 10. Qxh7 where I would consider Bd7 and Nd4. where black probably has enough compensation for the sacrificed material.  Better center...lead in development. I guess the reason I am inclined to play this way is that I play the poisoned pawn winawer variation...I kind of feel like this is an improved version of that since white cant maintain the center and there is no dark square bishop.

You're making the common mistake of firing an engine, and let it decide about a few opeining moves. This is not an easy task- usually results in bad misevaluations, and it is also counterproductive, as these positions have been tested many times, and several strong players have devoted days/weeks analysing them.

Here is what could have happened with optimal play.

That is a very good point and checking correspondence games is probably smart since I imagine they would have the best engines run for weeks on the same position.
